Summary: Aragorn beholds the Argonath for the first time.

Long had I desired to look upon the likenesses of my forefathers. I had travelled far, yet this was the first time I had beheld the Argonath. The great statues surpassed my expectations, a great monument to great men.

Now the time approaches for me to follow in their footsteps. Could I achieve what they did in defeating the enemy and making the kingdom secure? Am I worthy to occupy the thrones that they did.

Something stirs in my heart as I behold the carven features. I am their heir. Should I triumph, I will wear the crown with honour.

B2MeM Prompt:O75- Archetypes – High Priest
Format: double drabble
Genre: spiritual
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Characters: Aragorn
Pairings: none
Creators notes:Tolkien says in “Unfinished Tales” if I'm not mistaken that Aragorn restored the custom of offering the first fruits to the One. I also mention this in “A Time to Reap” and “Stairway to Heaven”.
Summary: Aragorn offers the first fruits to the One.

Aragorn would never grow accustomed to the feeling as he stood in the Hallow, Here, he came not as King but as High Priest; interceding for his people with the One, the bridge between Divine and Men. He spake the three prayers as had his forebears in Númenor of old and offered up the first fruits He stretched out his arms towards the heavens and prayed from his heart. “I beseech, thee, Ilúvatar, bestow thy blessings upon my people and my land. Make me worthy as their ruler. Help me to guide them wisely and well, seeking only good.”

The sun broke through the clouds and light shone upon him.

A rushing of wind disturbed the still air. Two mighty eagles hovered above him. Aragorn bowed his head. The One had sent Manwë 's messengers to show that his offering was accepted.

The eagles each grasped a fruit in their talons and flew away, rising higher and higher until they vanished from sight.

Aragorn's heart overflowed with love and awe. Silently, he gave thanks. In this moment, he was part of the great vastness of the music of creation, part of all that is and was and is to be.

Estel listened enraptured while his foster father spoke. Only when the story was concluded did he speak.
“Why did the One allow Melkor to spoil the music the other Ainur created?”

Elrond was silent for a few moments lost in thought.“Maybe this is how it was meant to be. Would we recognise light if there were no darkness, good if there were no evil, joy if there were no sorrow?”

“But how much happier everyone would be if Melkor's discords had not spoiled the harmonies of the Music of Creation!”

“Remember though, Estel, he only spoiled the music twice. The One would not let him spoil the final theme and it was from this that the One brought Elves and Men into being.”

“Then the music is not spoiled ?”

“Only if we allow the Evil One to prevail, Estel.” Elrond fell silent again thinking of his wife whom he could not heal. “One day, Arda will be renewed and her hurts healed forever.”

“But what about everyone who is hurting before then?” Estel persisted.

Elrond could only shake his head sadly. To some questions, even the wise lord of Imladris had no answers.

Eternal Cycles

Silence, nothingness, endless eons passed until;
A single note shattering silence.
Then another and another,
Chords woven into harmonies.
Sweet melodies took form, and with them
Earth and air fire and water,
The very stuff of being.
Land and sea, forest and river.
The One saw that it was good.
But then another chord distorts the melody
Earth trembles, seas rage and forests burn.
Harmony shattered by discord.
For Chaos must exist with order
And Evil with the Good.
From the beginning, it was ever so,
Creation and Destruction.
Endless cycles, until the end of time,
When Arda is renewed.

Never had she felt so weary and yet so blissful. Every emotion she had felt before today, seemed but a pale shadow of what she was experiencing now

The babe in her arms was the most perfect being she had ever beheld. Every fibre of her being was filled with love for her daughter, a love that welled inside her with almost painful intensity.

She would now live for this child, gladly die for her, or even kill for her.
Galadriel caressed the infant’s silver hair. The child whimpered fretfully.“Hush, Celebrian, no harm shall ever befall you,” she murmured.

A/n. I don't usually write Silmarillion stories ,but felt inspired to create this for the SWG 10th birthday with a little help from the prompt generator.

Title: Learning to Love
Author: Linda Hoyland
Title: Learning to Love
Rating: PG

Theme: Bunny Hutch LOTRGFIC Challenge.
Elements: . I've often wondered if Eowyn truly wanted Faramir or if she always pined for Aragorn but realized he wasn't to be hers, so settled for Faramir as a poor second choice. (Erulisse (one L))
Author's Notes: These drabbles are closely linked to my treatment of Faramir and Eowyn in other stories in my sub universe. The drabbles contain direct references to Tolkien.
Summary: Still Pining for Aragorn, Eowyn accepts Faramir's proposal.
Word Count:400

I
Faramir looked longingly at her, eyes alight with love. Éowyn accepted his proposal, yet her heart yearned for another. Aragorn loved her not, though, while Faramir did. Faramir was a good man. He would treat her kindly. Never would he confine her to a cage.
He even looked like Aragorn, tall and stern with sparkling grey eyes. Éowyn could do far worse. She would try to make him a good wife. She hoped her heart would no longer flutter wildly whenever Aragorn was near.

What else could she do? Return home and keep house for her brother until he wed?

II

The man she had loved had spoken of her as a fair thing given to Faramir by her brother. She hated him now with a burning rage that consumed her day and night. Yet were love and hate not close kin, mingled as the twin consuming passions?

She even doubted Faramir now. Did he truly love her or had he only wed her to spare the King embarrassment now that his Elven bride was here?

Faramir treated her respectfully, too respectfully, for he shunned her bed. Maybe he knew all too well that he was only her second choice.

III

When they at last come together, ice met with fire. His heat thawed her frost. She melted into his arms and at last, she loved him as he loved her. She knew now his love was no courtly pretext. They had both passed through darkest shadows into the sun.

When he held their child, his eyes beheld her with adoration and gratitude.
“Beloved!” he whispered and kissed her.

She returned his kiss, her heart overflowing. Faramir was truly a Prince amongst men. Éowyn was now the happiest of wives, free to be her own mistress as well as Faramir’s lady.

IV

The years pass until one day Faramir asks her, “Do you still feel love for Aragorn, by far the greatest man who lives?”

She can laugh now at that ill- starred infatuation. “I love him still, even as you love him, my husband,” she replies. “Do not all who see the King come to love him? He is my friend as he is yours.”

She knows now there are many kinds of love, equally deep and true; that of wife, mother, sister and friend. For Faramir alone she feels the love that makes her heart quicken when she beholds him.

“You have a letter, sister.”

Éowyn tore open the seal. It was from Merry. “I have waited long to hear these tidings, Éomer. Wormtongue is dead at the hand of a Hobbit archer.”

“Praise Bema! You are avenged for all the sorrows that he caused you. Would that the snake had died at my hand, though!”

Éowyn regarded her brother thoughtfully. “Once, I would have danced for joy at the news. Now, I feel uncertain. Merry tells me that he slew Sauraman just before he fell.”

“He died better than he lived,” said Éomer. “I say good riddance to them both!”
