Arwen supposed that the sun rose and set, the moon shone and stars still twinkled, but without Estel, she perceived them not. It were as if she dwelt in everlasting night, a deep darkness, which no light, however bright could penetrate. He had been her sun, her moon and her guiding star.

At last she came to Cerin Amroth and lay down and slept, embracing the darkness as friend, not foe.

Arwen opened her eyes and beheld a radiant dawn. Night was yielding to a glorious sunrise. Estel stood before her. He took her hand and darkness was forever banished.
