Arwen woke early and drew back the curtains. The morning sunlight streamed into the bedchamber. Exhausted after hard labours of the previous day, Aragorn still slept. Arwen had not the heart to rouse him. She climbed back into bed and lay beside him, studying his noble features in repose.
He stirred and smiled as if lost in pleasant dreams, oblivious to the sunbeams that played across his face.
He smiled often now; at her, his children and his people. Once his smiles were as rare as sunlight in midwinter. Summer had come now and he basked in its light and warmth.
