“You have a fine boy!”
The celebrations had begun as soon as the midwife announced the glad tidings. Wine flowed freely while an ox was killed and roasted, so that all might share the new father’s joy.
An old man struck up a tune on a fiddle and couples began to dance.
“Come, Aragorn! ”cried Halbarad seeing the Chieftain stood apart. “You joined us in wedlock, now you must be amongst the first to meet my son!”
Aragorn forced a smile, not wishing to dampen his friend’s joy. Would his heart’s desire ever be granted, that he too might rejoice?

Oh how hard it must have been to always observe the joy of others but be denied it himself.
A very nice glimpse of Dunedain life.

Aww. Poor Aragorn, it's apparent that he hasn't met Arwen yet? Or has he?

I think he has met Arwen, but it is before they were betrothed or he felt he had any hope at all of winning her hand.

Lovely piece!
I really like the way you portrayed Aragorn in it. I also like the idea of leaving the interpretation open to the readers so that we can only guess what is haunting his mind this time. The future? The past?
Poor Aragorn, always so concerned about everything and not letting his mind to rest even during a feast!

Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed this.I think he is most likely haunted by both the past and the future which cannot seem very bright, but I wanted to leave it open.

Very nicely done... I often think that his friendship with Halbarad was at times bittersweet as he watched Halbarad enjoying all those things in life that he so badly wished for himself.

Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed this.I agree that watching his friends marry and have families must have been very hard for Aragorn at times.

That is a most affecting drabble. Moments like this must indeed have been very bittersweet for Aragorn, who had to wait for so long for his heart's desire.

Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed this.It must have been very hard for Aragorn, but at least we know it all turned out well in the end.

Only now getting around to these (so expect a slew of reviewlets in your inbox!).

I'm just starting to get to the age where all of my friends are suddenly getting married, so I definitely feel with Aragorn here! There can't help but be just a touch of envy.
