Arwen grimaced at the worn green cloak. "Why do you keep this?” she asked.

Aragorn took it from her, a faraway look in his eyes.”Every stitch is full of memories,”he replied, “My mother patched it here. Her stitches were always so neat! See the rent there, mended in coarse thread? Halbarad stitched both cloth and flesh after an encounter with an Orc blade. Then the neat darn near the hem;a tear mended by a kindly old dame in Bree. Now I am required to dress in velvet and silk, this old cloak reminds me of the man the King once was.

I can so easily see that scene happening. Perhaps someday that cloak will take its place in a display alongside Frodo and Sam's garments from Mordor.

What a lovely image, and beautifully written.

And I would imagine the man that the King still is. A very nice drabble--I love the idea of him keeping an old cloak out of sentimentality.

And me being me, I'm wondering about that incident that required Halbarad's unique embroidery skills!

That is lovely! I like the concept very much and completely understand his need to preserve the memories and the sense of who he was in those long years that preceded him achieving his goal.

Thank you and for the idea!It would be nice if the cloak were displayed beside Frodo and Sam's garments.People would know then the King knew what hardship was.

Thank you, I'm sure Aragorn is still the same person at heart.I'm pleased you enjoyed this.

If you feel inspired to elaborabe on Halbarad's embroidery skills, I'd love to read it!In my first version, the bade had cut Aragorn's arm.

Thank you so much!I don't think Aragorn would want to ever forget what shaped him.

That was so sweet! There must be so many precious memories woven - or rather, stitched - into that cloak!

I was also thinking arm... or arm and side if I want it to be a bit more dire. If I come up with something I'll send it to you first for your approval, since it'll be based on your idea. :)

I'm extremely fond of that cloak myself, and would not like to think of Aragorn without it, even if he can't wear it for kingly occasions.

YES. That's the king I love, never forgetting where he came from and all he saw, and all the loved ones he's lost.

Thank you. If this could be longer than 100 words, I'm sure there would be many more stories Aragorn could tell.

I like to think he kept it too.

Thank you, that is why I love him too!
