Naice a Nilme.

I just checked in again at N&N as I do at least once a week and again, no new stories other than mine have been posted.

I would love it if those of you who write stories that feature Aragorn and/or Legolas (even if it is only a brief mention) could post them on N&N.

http://www.naiceanilme.net/

I would hate to see this archive wither and die through lack of interest.

If there is anything that would make folk more likely to post at N&N, please let me know or if there is any way I can be of help.

I know we have the big Archives like AO3, but I feel there is still a place for small archives and that our stories deserve maximum exposure.

The are so many Aragorn and Legolas genres and family and friendship combinations that are welcome at N&N.

On a personal note, I'd love to see more Aragorn and/or Legolas stories with Hobbits there as well as more Aragorn and Faramir friendship.

I do intend to post some stories there, I have just been over busy lately with too much Real Life stuff, as well as helping with the transfer of stories from HASA to Ao3. Thanks for the reminder, though -- I definitely have some Aragorn and Legolas stories to share there. I'll put it on my list of things to do in the coming weeks.

That's great. Your Boromir stories that mention Aragorn or/Legolas would be most welcome too.

I have just joined - but I have a problem - if I go to post a story I find that although I can fill the title box, and the other places where you choose from options, I cannot actually write or copy into any of the text boxes...

Do you know what I can do to actually post anything?

[identity profile] lindahoyland.livejournal.com 2015-04-27 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)

1'm sorry you are having problems. You have to copy text using CTRL +V.

If that doesn't work, I'll be happy to post the story for you. You are listed as a member, but I cannot find anything else.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2015-04-27 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I tried - but it simply won't even let me click in any of the text boxes to use control+V!

I'll try again later - otherwise I'll give you the links to a couple of stories and ask if you will post them.

[identity profile] lindahoyland.livejournal.com 2015-04-27 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be happy to post them for you. I fear I'm no tech expert.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2015-04-27 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The text boxes won't work anywhere on the site for me - not even in the 'contact us' part - I can put in my e-mail, but clicking on the text box doesn't give me a cursor, or any other way of putting anything in!

If others have the same problem you wouldn't know, as they wouldn't be able to contact the site to point it out...

I had thought to put this there to start with, and then another few over the next few weeks.

If you could post that one it would be very kind of you.

[identity profile] lindahoyland.livejournal.com 2015-04-27 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I was about to post your story, but it needs a summary. What would you like that to be?
You could be right about others encountering the problem. I did put an announcement up asking folk to e mail me.

I've no problem posting (I use chrome) but it should be OK for everyone. I'll e mail Rhapsody as she understands tech stuff and until we get it sorted will post for you.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2015-04-27 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh thank you. Summary;

"Tolkien tells us that Aragorn travelled widely in his youth... This is the tale of just one night during those travels."

Thanks again.

[identity profile] lindahoyland.livejournal.com 2015-04-27 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid it is not letting me post now either!I have e mailed Rhapsody and will let you know when I get a reply.

Hi Curiouswombat, may I ask what browser you are using? (NaN tech support is here :) )

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2015-04-28 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
IE.

But I have just gone back to Firefox (moves so slowly for me these days it is more firesloth... hence my currently using IE) - and I can lick in the text boxes on firefox - and will!

Hope this helps.

ETA - I have been able to upload it using Firefox - but I couldn't pick the category (Third Age Pre-Ring War) - it simply wouldn't move it over into the right hand box when I clicked the relevant button. So it still won't accept it.

I went to N&N but could find no trace of your story, but today it let me post it for you without any problems!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2015-04-28 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'll leave posting anything else for now, and try again in a few days.

Try again in a few days and let me know if you still have problems and I'll post the stories for you.

Ah yes, IE and efiction do not go so well together. It is a known bug since IE6 (and onwards versions). That's why I asked :)

I am looking at 'invocation of memory' and selecting the subcategory did take or have you tried it again?

[identity profile] lindahoyland.livejournal.com 2015-04-28 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I was able to upload it for Wombat today. I went to look for the story and it wasn't there, so I added it.

You're the best Linda :D

[identity profile] lindahoyland.livejournal.com 2015-04-28 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That's sweet of you to say, thanks. It wouldn't work for me yesterday using Chrome, kept saying i'd not filled out the fields out when I had, but it seems that was just a glitch.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2015-04-28 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
As you can see, Linda uploaded it for me.

I don't have any problems uploading stories to Faerie or MPTT through IE, and they seem to use the same system.

No problems when I used to use Firefox there, either.

But as long as it is only something to do with me, and isn't giving anyone else a problem, I can always pass other things to Linda, too, when I remember them.

Well I am in charge as an archive mod at MPTT and the setup is almost the same with the exception that NaN has different modifications in place (I am not a mod or member of the team at Faerie). So I need to investigate what is triggering what. I do appreciate the heads up about this, if you try again, can you please contact me at rhapsody74(a)gmaildotcom? Then I will try and see if I can reproduce the errors :)

(*Crawling from the Silm fandom*) I'm sorry people aren't posting in N&N but I think we're in a moment when Tumblr and AO3 seem to take up most of the attention and people, especially new authors, find them more appealing. It's a pity and I agree with you that small archives provide more exposure and also easier access to stories :(

[identity profile] lindahoyland.livejournal.com 2015-04-27 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I think you are right. I sometimes read and post on AO3, but find Tumblr pretty impossible, though I have an account. I think we need smaller archives too like SWG and N&N.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2015-04-27 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oddly, Faerie still has a growing membership and has quite a lot of posts each week.

I don't really know quite how new people find it - but they do!

[identity profile] just-jenni.livejournal.com 2015-04-28 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's very sad when archives wither and die. I'd love to post something at N&N. My real life is terribly busy and frenetic at the present time but perhaps I could resurrect some older stories about Aragorn & Legolas, hobbits included. I know I have some I've saved. It looks like a very nice archive. :)

[identity profile] febobe.livejournal.com 2015-04-29 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I might try if I can make some time. I've never posted over there, but I do have several stories which, while Frodo-centric, feature Aragorn and/or Legolas in featured parts. :)
